Outbreak Watch

  • 14 cases of typhoid fever were reported in Tailevu province, Fiji, at the end of March. More cases were reported throughout Fiji in April; the increase in typhoid was linked to the damage caused by tropical cyclone Winston, which struck the country in late February.
  • Typhoid claimed 6 lives in Masaka district, Uganda, in early April.
  • ​18 cases of typhoid fever were confirmed in Mchinji district, Malawi, in mid-April, prompting local hospitals to hold educational meetings on hygiene practices.
