- Abbott partnered with Babygogo (part of the Sheroes Network), to conduct a nationwide survey across eight cities* to assess awareness around typhoid fever
- There are higher levels of awareness for mandatory vaccines, ie., vaccines given in National Immunisation Programme of the country (NIP) such as rotavirus (82 per cent) compared to vaccines not given in NIP such as influensa (67 per cent) and typhoid (66 per cent)

Coventry school closed after pupil typhoid diagnosis

Gweru DCP, council on typhoid high alert
- The Department of Civil Protection (DCP) in Gweru and the local authority have partnered to fight typhoid after the city last week recorded two suspected typhoid deaths in Mkoba suburb

Emergency drive finds new vaccine effective against typhoid: experts
- An emergency vaccination campaign in Sindh following the outbreak of typhoid in the province has found the typhoid conjugate vaccine to be effective in preventing new cases of the disease, said researchers at an event at the Aga Khan University (AKU)
- At the same time as the campaign, researchers set up a surveillance system in the same area over an 18-month period to screen a cohort of over 20,000 children, who received the vaccine, to detect cases of typhoid. - A new study has uncovered key details for how the Salmonella bacteria that causes typhoid fever identifies a host’s immune cells and delivers toxins that disrupt the immune system and allow the pathogen to spread

- The findings open the door to develop small molecules that block the high affinity trisaccharides and inhibit the toxin from binding to and entering the target cell

Child diagnosed with rare Typhoid fever at Briarwood Elementary
- On Wednesday, February 5, Briarwood Elementary School was notified by the Barren River District Health Department of a confirmed case of typhoid fever in one of their students
- Principal Lori Morris advised parents to be watchful of the following symptoms in their children: 103-104 degrees Fahrenheit fever, weakness, stomach pain, headache, diarrhea or constipation, cough, or loss of appetite
Typhoid: 90pc of children in hotspots vaccinated
- At least 90 percent of children between five and 16 years were vaccinated during the 2019 typhoid campaign in Harare’s high risk areas, including 74 percent of those aged between six months and four years
- The campaign took place in Harare suburbs of Mufakose, Hopley, Budiriro, Dzivaresekwa, Glen View, Glen Norah, Mbare and Hatcliffe, targeting 325 000 children
