The 10th International Conference on Typhoid and Other Invasive Salmonelloses is bringing together more than 300 experts and stakeholders. As a moderator, you play an important role in fostering dialogue between participants during conference sessions and ensuring that the conference adheres to a strict timeline. In order to do this, we ask that moderators follow these guidelines:
Before the session:
- Touch-base with your co-moderator to divide moderator duties
- Review with each speaker their allotted time, order of presentation, session format and how time warnings will be indicated
- Please note that abstract sessions allow for a 10 minute presentation followed by 5 minutes of questions
Beginning the session:
- Briefly introduce the session topic and format
- Ask audience members to save all questions for the question and answer session(s)
During the session:
- Introduce each speaker between presentations
- Keep the presentations on time. Have an eye on the timer and indicate to the speaker when they have five minutes and one minute left in their presentation
- Politely and firmly cut off a speaker if they have gone over their time
- Guide the audience during the question and answer session, reminding them to keep questions relevant to the topic
- Be prepared with smart, insightful questions in case of a lull in the question and answer session
Ending the session:
- Wrap up the session on time
- Thank presenters
- Direct audience members to the next item on the conference agenda
- Share feedback with conference organizers
