  1. What is the Coalition against Typhoid (CaT)?

    The Coalition against Typhoid (CaT) is a global forum of scientists and immunization experts working to save lives and reduce suffering by advancing typhoid vaccination in high burden communities; populations affected by complex emergencies and natural disasters; and persons at risk for typhoid or its transmission as a result of their occupation or travel.

  2. What does the Coalition against Typhoid do?

    As part of a comprehensive and integrated approach to the control of enteric fever, the aim of the CaT is to expedite and sustain rational, evidence-based decisions regarding the use of typhoid vaccines. This aim will be achieved through:

    • Increasing awareness of typhoid disease and the impact of typhoid vaccination programs;
    • Raising visibility of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) recommendations to countries and clarifying vaccination strategies;
    • Helping interested countries implement their vaccination strategies; and
    • Researching improved diagnostics and vaccines.
  3. What is the role of the Coalition against Typhoid Secretariat?

    The CaT Secretariat was created to serve as a convener, advocate, and resource-builder to achieve the aim of the CaT. Although the Secretariat supports CaT members in all work plan-related policy, program, research and advocacy activities, the Secretariat was specifically tasked by CaT members to:

    • Engage the donor community to mobilize financial & other resources for CaT activities
    • Strengthen advocacy, communication, and information dissemination on the prevention of enteric fever and the use of typhoid vaccines; and
    • Coordinate and manage the development, implementation and updating of the CaT Work Plan
